The~~Peace Activists~~Leftist terrorist sympathizers who formed the “RNC Welcoming Committee” behind the bus attacks on the Republican National Committee’s meeting in Minneapolis in 2008 have had their offices and homes raided by the FBI in conjunction with their support of FARC and other terrorist organizations including the PFLP and Hezbollah.

The linkage between the ~~Peace Activists~~Commie sympathizers community and terrorist organizations are generally acknowledged but to my knowledge have rarely been acted upon by our government. It is nice to see that this criminal support of narco terrorist and terrorist organizations is being acted upon.

Obama Calls Creation Of Civilian National Defense Force

Just when I think someone's ignorance of history is exhausted I come across another gem of a blunder. This time it is Barack Obama's call for a civilian defense force as powerful as our own military.

Historical precedents for a parallel paramilitary or civilian national defense agencies exists already. History is replete with examples; Chile's marxist non governmental military force under Salvador Allende, Panama's Dignity Battalions under Manuel Noriega, various forces around the world referred to as 'paramilitary death squads', the Sturmabteilung aka the "Assault Section", which was replaced by the ultimate expression of a military force as powerful as a nation's army the Schutzstaffel aka the "Defense Echelon".

No such example of any of these is needed in the United States of America.

This is not the kind of change that any nation needs.

Victory Without the Results

Nearly six months after Morgan Tsvangirai and the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) defeated Robert Mugabe aka Comrade Bob in the presidential election a transition to the lawful new President has not occurred. The sticking point here may be that Comrade Bob's supporter's efforts at ballot box stuffing and voter intimidation were successful enough to require a run off between the MDC candidate and ZANU-PF's leader of thirty plus years Robert Mugabe. While Morgan Tsvangirai did withdraw his name from the run off due to voter and opposition intimidation.

Despite winning the Presidency and a majority in the representative body there has been no transition.

A compromise of power sharing had been attempted and agreed to on September 15th however the ZANU-PF is sabotaging negotiations on which Ministries will be held by MDC vs ZANFU-PF. Latest reports claim Morgan Tsvangirai is ready to boycott talks with ZANU-PF as they have been unproductive.

All of this occurs while starvation is hitting the common people of Zimbabwe. Once the breadbasket of Africa exporting food even during crises in the past such as the Ethopian famines, Comrade Bob's redistribution of the once efficient corporate farms, the industry underpinning Zimbabwe's economy, to ZANU-PF cronies has resulted in mass starvation and economic collapse.

Perhaps there is a lesson there for the electorate of a different nation that redistribution of wealth, or socialism if you prefer, results in economic collapse. t does not matter if the country is in South America, Africa, Europe or the Pacific Rim.

I should not be surprised that my fellow Americans are able to shrug off the acquaintance of presidential hopeful Barack Obama with William Ayers a leader in the Weather Underground domestic terrorist organization of the 1960's and 1970's.

Why it was forty years ago that William Ayers along with the other "Weathermen" attempted to bend the U.S. government and its people to their will with a campaign of terror. A handful of relatively unsuccessful bombings is easy to forget and move on about.

What is not said is that the only reason William Ayers did not serve any criminal sentence for his crimes was a judge throwing the case out on grounds of government misconduct.

Imagine if you will a different domestic terrorist let loose upon a legal technicality after his atrocity. Imagine rather than the bumbling and generally inept attempts by the marxist revolutionary wannabe the domestic terrorist in question was actually successful in his attaining his goals of mass carnage to get his message out.

Would you expect to see Timothy McVeigh celebrated by the intelligentsia after murdering 168 people including many children attending a day care center at the Murray Federal building? Would you expect to somehow not know that this individual was part of a group that was successful in murdering Men, women and children?

Ponder this; the intent of both Timothy McVeigh and William Ayers was the same, to commit an act of terrorism to get publicity for their agenda. That one was successful and the other was inept matters not.

Now think on who would associate with a Timothy McVeigh should he have been released on a legal technicality and was free to live his life unlike his victims. How could they not know who and what he was. Think on what group or individuals would associate themselves with that type of person.

Do you want them represented even obliquely at the highest levels in our government?

As a firm believer in the ability of the common man to make decisions that are far wiser than our elected officials are capable of I felt vindicated by the longshoreman in South Africa standing up to tyrants both in their own government and that of a neighboring country.

The longshoremen refused to unload weapons bound for Zimbabwe where Comrade Bob Mugabe the marxist dictator has managed to destroy that country's economy and turn it from the breadbasket of Africa into a nation of starving millions. Currently Comrade Bob is in the midst of stealing himself another election. Widely acknowledged to have lost by a margin so great not even all the dead voters of Chicago and St. Louis could help him, he is stonewalling the face of the Zimbabwean people's rejection of him and his cronies.

Part of his resistance are the weapons ordered from China that would help him subjugate the Zimbabweans.

Unfortunately the kleptocracy in charge of South Africa decided to allow the shipment of weapons to be moved provided the paperwork was in order. By paperwork I assume he greased the right palms.

Bravo the longshoremen for taking a stand against the corrupt despots in their own country and that of their neighbor to the North.

Speculation of a turn around in French interaction with the world changing with the election of President Sarkozy appears to be correct.

Galrahn has the information on how the French tracked a vessel seized by pirates off the coast of Somalia, a haven for piracy.

The story goes on to include vertical envelopment and capture of the pirates on their own turf whilst they were making the getaway.

I would think this would make the remaining pirates less likely to target any ships flying le tricolore.

Bravo to all those involved in this great feat of anti-piracy operations.

I Hate Bad Salesmanship

One of the little, or not so little things, that drives me up the wall is bad salesmanship.

Whether you are shilling away for your own business, your employer's business that you provide sales/marketing talent for or that special cause you believe in, good salesmanship is a must.

A sales person is essence runs their own business. They can make their own hours and within reason dictate how much money they will make.

Similarly marketing campaigns are salesmanship in the form of your companies public face to the world. A world that I might add which has gotten effectively smaller with communications across the globe in the time of thousandth of a second.

When Absolut Vodka's ad in a Mexican magazine showed the borders of Mexico prior to 1836 stating "In An Absolut World" I wonder how could they not have thought about the implications of it getting out to a larger audience. Indeed if they did not intend it to get out to a non Mexican audience why was the advertisement in English?

This Ad is guaranteed to lose Absolut more business in the U.S.A. than they ever may have wished for in Mexico.

While Comrade Bob has not vacated the presidential palace at this point the writing is on the wall. No doubt he will get a sweetheart deal from the EU to vacate since bribing him out would be cheaper than military intervention by the United States and our allies in Europe.

This is a good reminder that despite defeating tyranny in one battle the war continues with new battlefields constantly emerging where the forces of the free market and individual freedom square off against the despots and the suppression of freedom around the world.

Who Would Trust Them With Their Health

While vacationing this weekend I was privileged, if that is the correct word, to experience a beautiful demonstration of why the government should not be trusted with managing health care.

While traveling to Southern Arizona from Phoenix I went through Tucson. In their infinite wisdom those in charge of planning the expansion of I-10, which runs along the downtown area of Tucson, every exit East and West bound was closed. Literally there was no available exit for ten miles. Notably lacking what would normally be the heaviest used exits with access to main thoroughfares.

Imagine you want to go Tucson for business, you either have to exit at the far North or far Southern ends of the city to enter it. This would add thirty minutes to nearly any trip outside of Tucson to a destination near the city center.

Add to this they scheduled the closures to occur during their busiest week of the year when the Gemological show is in town.

Now think of what that would mean to you if the same mentality of "public service" was used to provide your health care services. The delays in this case would not be measured in minutes of travel but in mortality.

This matches only one city I have seen for civic planning ineptitude; St. Louis and St. Louis County. These geniuses would close down all but one lane of the bridge across I-70 from St. Charles to St. Louis over the Missouri river during rush hour (both morning and night). A stunning display of ineptitude and disregard for the tax payer I assure you.

I am referring to Ford selling Jaguar and Land Rover to Tata of India.

This will lower the opinion people have of Indian products and workmanship.

It will lower the opinion of Indians about dealing with Americans as Ford sold them a British car marque (/shudder).

Maybe it was the cricket that did it to them. Maybe it was the tea. I really do not know why India wanted this car marque. Maybe it gives them access to key technologies. I would recommend before employing any such new technology they verify it was not engineered by a resident of the U.K.

M-4 Takes On The Competition

There has been controversy surrounding the M-16/M-4/AR-15 since its first issue to our troops in Southeast Asia.

While there have been enhancements made in reliability and performance controversy still surrounds the direct gas impingement system.

That being said here is a wonderful article comparing the M-16/M-4/AR-15 families against current competition over at CdrSalamander's blog.

All of which performed better to Eugene Stoner's family of weapons.

My take on this controversy:

1)Replace the direct gas impingement upper with a gas piston upper. There are plenty to choose from
2)Keep the .223 caliber on most weapons currently in service.
3)Explore options for an optimal all around catridge which meets the best mix of the following; accurate, plenty of knock down power, range, controllability for follow up shots and weight.
4) Over time transition to a reliable, versatile platform which can be configured for multiple demanding situations.

Every rifle I own is some version of .30 caliber; 7.62x51mm (.308 Winchester), 7.62x54R and 7.62x39mm. Each of these rifles also uses a gas piston rather than direct gas impingement with the exception of the Mosin Nagant which is bolt action. I own two products designed by a competitor in the linked article.

The Navy needs a larger number of ships, not only for winning a war at sea against a stronger opponent but also for carrying out diverse missions in peacetime, ranging from humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, security assistance, enforcement of maritime agreements, counterpiracy, vessel traffic service, multinational exercises, countersmuggling and counterdrug, to regional deterrence through forward presence in selected parts of the world’s oceans. In operations short of war, the Navy’s mission includes prevention of transnational terrorist acts on the high seas and in international straits and larger ports, support of counterinsurgency or insurgency, and peace enforcement operations.
The Navy today lacks both the numbers and the type of combat ships to successfully carry out all its diverse missions in times of peace and war. The reasons for such a long-standing unfavorable fleet structure include the Navy’s preference for building an ever-larger number of high-capability but large and expensive ships optimally suited for operations on the open ocean; the associated costs of building such large ships; the use of purely business considerations in determining fleet size/composition and deployment patterns; the belief that new technologies are a substitute for numbers; and a false reading of the future strategic environment.
In mid-2007, the Navy had in active service 278 combat and support ships, including 11 aircraft carriers (CVs/CVNs), 14 ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs), 53 nuclear-powered attack submarines (SSNs), four guided missile submarines (SSGNs), 22 guided missile cruisers (CGs), 49 guided missile destroyers (DDGs) and 30 guided missile frigates (FFGs). Striking force of the fleet comprised 11 carrier strike groups (CSGs) and 10 expeditionary groups (ESGs). Since 2000, the Navy’s plans for the future size of the fleet have varied in terms of total number and force composition. For example, in March 2005, the Navy’s report to Congress envisaged a total number of ships of between 260 and 325. In February 2006, the Secretary of the Navy submitted a Report to Congress (based on Sea Power 21 requirements) for fiscal 2007 that outlined requirements for 313 ships and 3,800 aircraft as necessary to meet all demands and to face the most advanced technological challengers.

The gains in combat power of a netted force essentially depend not on raw organic power, such as firepower and mobility, but on one’s ability to decide and act faster than one’s adversary. Such an increase in one’s combat power depends on many intangible factors, but primarily on the human element. Otherwise, the new technologies will be of little or no help in defeating a stronger and more agile opponent. Experience conclusively shows that numbers have their own quality. Hence, the importance of the numerically larger fleet should not be dismissed as irrelevant in the information age.

PHOENIX (AP) -- Three high-ranking Mexican police officers were arrested on allegations of buying weapons and ammunition at a gun show in Phoenix in violation of a law barring noncitizens from purchasing firearms, a U.S. official said Wednesday.

The three had crossed the border at Calexico, Calif., in an official police vehicle and driven to Phoenix, said Tom Mangan, a spokesman with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Police and federal agents arrested them after the three bought three guns and about 450 rounds of ammunition Saturday at the gun show, Mangan said.

It appeared the officers were buying the handguns for their personal use, he said.

Booked on state weapons misconduct and conspiracy were Carlos Alberto Flores, 36, a Baja California state police director; Baja State Police Commander Guillermo Valle Medina, 33; and Jose Santos Cortes Gonzalez, 41, a federal police commander in Baja California.

Flores and Cortes posted $2,000 bond each and were released from jail, and Valle was released on personal recognizance, Mangan said.

A woman who answered the telephone in Flores' office in Mexicali said he was still in charge but not in the office or available for comment. Alejandra Borquez, a spokeswoman for the Mexican state's Office of Public Safety, said she had not heard of the arrests.

Mangan said Mexican officials have been pressuring U.S. officials to cut off the supply of weapons going south.

"It is ironic we are receiving a great deal of criticism regarding our efforts to stem the tide of illegal weapons, and then we have three law enforcement officers trying to buy weapons here," Mangan said.

Licensed dealers in Arizona must check identification documents and run background checks, but private sellers operate without those rules.

The guns were bought from a private seller, Mangan said.

Nice to see the country with strict laws about firearms ownership for its citizens that also complains about firearms being smuggled in from the U.S.A. getting the gratuitous slap in the face it deserves.

Evolution In Action?

Vervet monkeys are devouring a Nigerian farming communities crops.

It is no surprise that animals will come looking for an easy meal.

What is surprising is these monkeys do not fear the women of the village and reportedly are communicating via gestures their contempt when they identify the women.

Other reports note the group of monkeys are also killing livestock and guard dogs.

What the village needs is a couple of claymores or at least a dozen shotguns.

A couple of blasts from armed outraged farmers would incline the monkeys to move elsewhere.

Apparently the villagers however are unarmed and have had to appeal to their government for help. And we all know the likelihood of anything constructive being done by the government about such a problem in any period of time let alone fast enough to save this community's harvest.

While monkey's humiliating villagers and eating their crops may sound funny there is a dire risk of starvation for the village's people especially children and the infirm who are most at risk.

This is another example of what is wrong with being disarmed; you are unable to deal with nonhuman threats to your food source.

Vegans beware this puts you all that much closer to a move down the pyramid from top predator to prey. With the inability to supplement your diet with meat and a philosophical unwillingness to defend yourselves you place yourselves in extinction's waiting room.

An Arizona Peace Officer put his two cents regarding defending your family in this editorial in the Arizona Republic.

I can say nothing he did not say himself:

Whatever it requires, no member of this family will become someone's victim.

As a police officer, I was always armed. I extended that umbrella of protection to each member of the family in the form of common sense precautions.

I could immediately recognize someone who did not belong in our neighborhood. Security doors were installed on outside doorways. In addition to my service weapon, I always kept a loaded gun in the house.

I can hear the grannies, male and female, now: "Eeek! A loaded gun! I'm afraid of guns and don't want one near me!" That is an illogical and emotional response comparable to being afraid of your spare tire. The philosophy that supports the possession and use of a defensive weapon is precisely the same as that which supports the spare tire in your vehicle: It is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

When our children were very small, I had occasion to be out of town overnight. At a very late hour, someone attempted to kick in the front door. He did not leave until my wife threatened to shoot through the door. The situation was resolved with no shots fired, by a person who had a defensive weapon and knew how to use it. The kids were a little frightened by all the racket, but very much alive. I should add there was no 911 at that time.

Apparently presidential hopeful, at least in his own eyes, Barak Obama the junior U.S. Senator from Illinois's romance with the neighbor's canine is not finished just yet.

Hot on the heels of calling for invading Pakistan, a nation with its own nuclear arsenal, Obama has now stated flatly that he would under no circumstances use nuclear weapons.

In comments over the use of nuclear weapons, Mr Obama ruled out the use of such weapons to go after al-Qaeda or Taliban targets in Afghanistan or Pakistan, prompting Ms Clinton to say presidents never take the nuclear option off the table.

Presidents since the Cold War have used nuclear deterrence to keep the peace. And I don't believe that any president should make any blanket statements with respect to the use or non-use of nuclear weapons

Mr Obama's nuclear position came a day after he vowed he would be willing to strike al-Qaeda targets inside Pakistan with or without the approval of the government of Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf.

Nice to know which presidential candidate would allow authoritarian states like China, Russia and every third world dictator who can buy a nuclear weapon be able to kill millions of U.S. citizens without the fear of retaliation.

Obama's "Segolene" Moment

Illinois ~~socialist~~ Democrat Senator Barak Obama has had a “Segolene” moment when he called for invading Pakistan. Much like the unsuccessful socialist candidate for France’s presidency Segolene Royal who stated, “Liberty and sovereignty for Quebec reflect our shared common values.", Senator Obama called for invading a sovereign nation. While Pakistan is troubled with extremists, President Musharaf has been cooperating with the U.S.A. regarding our war on terrorism.

Naivety aside what makes this comment worse is the ignorance or disregard for the fact that Pakistan is a nation with a nuclear arsenal of its own. I doubt it would take much persuasion to move the entire region to become less cooperative regarding our aims.

For example India, the world’s most populous democracy, would not be strengthening ties with a nation that would move them closer to the outright nuclear war they have been avoiding with Pakistan. This warming of relations between the United States of America and India occurring now after decades of the Cold War where they were more closely aligned with the late, unlamented Union of Soviet Socialist Republics is precisely the wrong moment to be antagonizing an increasingly strategic partner. I doubt it would take much to ruin the cooperation and economic opportunity that we have cultivated with India of late.

The part that saddens me is the individuals who support Sen. Obama’s bid for the presidency probably do not understand the danger that this lack of knowledge regarding international affairs presents.

This is another reason that my heroes have always been farmers. Granted I am likely to be genetically predisposed to this position as a large percentage of my family were farmers. But that does not change the facts. You are more likely to die working a farm than in police uniform.

So the next time you hear someone speaking of the dangers of their jobs you should tell them to try wearing overalls and getting on the old Oliver tractor to disc their field or harvest beans, wheat or corn, knowing that emergency medical care is hours away.

Indeed we should take care to think of those who supply us with the food we all eat, from the farmers and fishermen to the truck driver who delivers it to our grocery stores, their jobs represent three of the top 10 most dangerous jobs.

The Show Me state, my place of birth, today had reasonable changes in gun control laws enacted.

This is not a new "assault weapon" ban, a ban on large capacity magazines or ban handguns in the state capitol. Nor is this change to restrict purchases to one gun a month.

Missouri enacted its Castle Doctrine law. No longer will unscrupulous Nifong's (I apologize for the redundancy) be able to bring charges against home owners who shoot intruders.

Also the principal tool for discriminating against those deemed "undesirable" as firearms owners, the legal requirement to go to the county sheriff and obtain a permit to purchase a handgun has been eliminated.

These changes are powerful statements to the criminal class; stay away from our homes. Here you are the prey not the predator.

Christian religious leaders are begging for their country to be invaded to relieve the starvation.

ZIMBABWE’S leading cleric has called on Britain to invade the country and topple President Robert Mugabe. Pius Ncube, the Archbishop of Bulawayo, warned that millions were facing death from famine, unable to survive amid inflation believed to have soared to 15,000%.
Mugabe, 83, had proved intransigent despite the “massive risk to life”, said Ncube, the head of Zimbabwe’s 1m Catholics. “I think it is justified for Britain to raid Zimbabwe and remove Mugabe,” he said. “We should do it ourselves but there’s too much fear. I’m ready to lead the people, guns blazing, but the people are not ready.”
Some parts of Zimbabwe have seen 95% of crops fail, leaving families with only two or three weeks’ food supply to last a year. Prices in the shops are more than doubling every week and Christopher Dell, the American ambassador, predicts that by the end of the year inflation could hit 1.5m%.

Formerly the breadbasket of Africa, Zimbabwe now has massive starvation due to Mad Bob Mugabe's land redistribution program. This is where farms were taken out of the hands of descendants of Western colonists and given to ZANU party supporters and his Chimurenga "war veterans".

The Story of Grain

In a simplified way, the story of the collapse of the Soviet Union could be told as a story about grain and oil. As for the grain, the turning point that decided the fate of the Soviet Union began with the economic debate of 1928-29, when the discussion centered on what would later be called the "Chinese path" of development. (By several important economic and social indicators, the Soviet Union of that period and China in the late 1970s took similar approaches to reform. See figure 1.) At the time, the head of the Soviet government, Aleksei Rykov, and the chief ideologist of the Communist Party, Nikolai Bukharin, earnestly defended the idea of a path which included preserving private agriculture and the market, and ensuring financial stability--but holding onto the party's political control.

The Soviet leadership ultimately chose another path. The solution preferred by Joseph Stalin was the expropriation of peasants' property, forced collectivization, and extraction of grain. Judging from the available documents, the essence of this decision was relatively simple. Bukharin and Rykov essentially told Stalin: "In a peasant country, it is impossible to extract grain by force. There will be civil war." Stalin answered, "I will do it nonetheless."

The result of the disastrous agriculture policy implemented between the late 1920s and the early 1950s was the sharpest fall of productivity experienced by a major country in the twentieth century. The key problem confronting the Soviet Union was well-expressed in the letter sent by Nikita Khrushchev to his colleagues in the leadership of the party. The letter fundamentally stated: "In the last fifteen years, we have not increased the collection of grain. Meanwhile, we are experiencing a radical increase of urban population. How can we resolve this problem?"

Once again, a serious discussion ensued among Soviet leaders in the early 1950s, resulting in two positions. The first position was to attempt to improve the situation in the agricultural regions outside of the fertile "black soil belt" in southern Russia. The other position was to resolve the problem by utilizing the socialist planning system: large projects and a concentration of resources. Naturally, doubts lingered about whether this strategy would cause even higher fluctuations in long-term production.

But these considerations were ignored and, tactically, the strategy of dramatically expanding the land under cultivation yielded temporary success. Between the mid-1950s and the early 1960s, the amount of the grain produced by the Soviet Union increased significantly. The problem was the limited amount of suitable land and the continuing growth of the population in large cities. Thus, already in the late 1960s, the shortcomings of this plan were evident.

In 1963, Nikita Khrushchev sent a letter to the leaders of the Socialist bloc, informing them that the Soviet Union would no longer be able to supply them with grain. That year, the Soviet state bought 12 million tons of grain--and spent one third of the country's gold reserves to do so. Khrushchev commented: "Soviet power cannot tolerate any more the shame that we had to endure."[2]

You may have vast armies and hold the world hostage under threat of thermonuclear annihilation, but you still have to pay the bills.

While not directly related to the purchase of Littoral Combat Ships by the United States Navy the Australian decision to purchase Spanish F100 type AEGIS destroyers rather than an evolved Arleigh Burke design underscores what is wrong with the concept. Namely that an expensive and ultra capable vessel is not as good as more of a very good design.

The Australians are able to buy four F100 AEGIS ships rather than three of the evolved Arliegh Burkes.

You can always count on an ally like the Australians to show the way.

More of pretty damn good is better than a handful of awesome vessels that stretch deployment schedules and crews to the limit.

Aussie Rules

It has come to light that there was another attempt to capture coalition troops made by Iran in 2004. This as with the capture of the British sailors involved a boarding party.

The ending however was very different.

The Australians didn't repel one, but five , Iranian gunboats. It was a four hour confrontation following the Aussies boarding a grounded gunship, and it happened in 2004.
Remember the British soldiers that were temporarily captured by Iran, causing an international bruhaha? Remember how they ranted for days and weeks about how there was no way they could've avoided capture? The Australians managed to do it:

It turns out that Iranian forces made an earlier concerted attempt to seize a boarding party from the Royal Australian Navy.

The Australians, though, to quote one military source, "were having none of it".

The BBC has been told the Australians re-boarded the vessel they had just searched, aimed their machine guns at the approaching Iranians and warned them to back off, using what was said to be "highly colourful language".

The Iranians withdrew, and the Australians were reportedly lifted off the ship by one of their own helicopters.

Rather than say, "oh, goodness, we are surrounded, please don't hurt me" as with the Brits the Australian sailors reboarded the craft they had just searched, pointed their weapons at the Iranians and let them know they were in for a fight.

Give the bully a fight and he will bother someone else. Act like you are weak and you will be victimized. This is as true of "international diplomacy" as it is with the playground.

The not so Good Old Days

Someone has discovered that the engineering and quality control from the days of yore are not what they are remembered to be.

"They don't make them like they used to" could not be more accurate: Cars now are made far better than they ever were with better reliability, longer life and higher usability.

I hope this will be a lesson to all those who idealize the past. We are blessed to be living in this age.

We do not have mass starvation due to a overly rainy or dry season. If one area has a bad production year we have the transportation network to ship food to them at minimal cost. Our humanitarian efforts throughout the world are another luxury afforded us by modern technology and the immense wealth of our economy. Look at Africa millions of tons of food aid are provided there every year. Something the world could not have done seventy years ago, let along 200 years ago.

We currently have refrigeration, not just to to keep us comfortably cool in our homes during the summer, but to keep food from going bad. We no longer have to buy our meat from a open air market where it has been tenderly aged by flies and the humid summer heat. Only in the rarest of instances do we hear of e. coli or botulism and when it occurs alerts are sent out to recall the bad product.

Modern health care technology saves lives and extends the lifespan. It allows those individuals we term "differently abled" now to be able to live at all, let alone enjoy a quality of life unrivaled in the past.

Those who decry our lives as degenerate should think deeply upon the luxury of our charity afforded to us by our modern technology. Our ability to provide the indigent and otherwise in need with health care, feed the hungry across the world, house criminals in a jail rather than simply hanging them and many other modern niceties are the direct result of our modern technology and today's economic engine.

When you pump gasoline into your car, power the lights in your home with electricity from the nuclear power plant, take meat from the freezer to feed your family as you cook in an air conditioned home or buy that new iPod, think not of the negative impact of your carbon footprint. Rather reflect upon your participation in the modern economy and use of technology generating the revenues which allows us to expend the excess, that not dedicated to feeding, housing and clothing your family, on real luxuries; health care to the indigent, feeding the hungry half way across the world, jailing criminals rather than hanging them, saving and extending lives.

The Japanese have their DDH under construction, a "helicopter destroyer" that is in the same class as VSTOL carriers operated by the Italian, Spanish, British, French and Indian navies. Now we hear more on the Chinese plans for an aircraft carrier. No doubt they have learned something useful from the purchase of the "floating casino" and wish to apply those lessons.

With the ever increasing Chinese surface fleet augmented by aircraft carriers and their submarines things could get more interesting in the Pacific Rim.

I am a big fan of CZ firearms. Their tough construction, functionality and affordable price all put them in the solid defensive handgun, homeland defense rifle and sporting rifle categories. In fact there are many great things that come from the Czech Republic. Sometimes I have to wonder where their inspiration comes from.

Take for example the latest evolution of the CZ 75, the P01.
A fine pistol made even better by the addition of a accessory rail, serrations on the front of the pistol grip and extended backstrap. This however was not enough for the fine people of CZ UB. They have added a new element to the defensive handgun or perhaps brought one back from the days of iron men and wooden ships; the tactical bayonet mounted on your pistol. For those moments when you are unable to reload or your off hand is busy now you can keep striking at your foes after the magazine has run dry.

As previously mentioned this is not a new idea but the resurgence of an old one. I wonder which manufacturers will follow suit?

All I can think is it makes we me want to repel boarders.

The not so bright and/or ethical among our police frequently wind up in the harsh light of publicity.

Here is another such example consisting of the proverbial quid pro quo, that is do something for me and I'll do something for you. Usually this consists of a sex act performed for the officer's benefit in exchange for the suspect getting a pass on the DUI/DWI.

This example is only different in that the cop was such a 'tard that he allowed the woman to take pictures.

In short, she writes she was pulled over early in the morning. The trooper asks what she does for a living and she tells him she makes "dirty movies." The trooper then pulls up her website in his patrol car.

She writes that the trooper tossed "narcotic pills" she had into some bushes and she performed a sex act on him. Then she writes, "he asked me if he could take photos, I said yes, only if i can have them, he said okay. He even made little videos too."

Those graphic pictures are on Barbie's website and the Tennessee Highway Patrol along with TBI is investigating whether or not a video exists. The woman has been interviewed by the Criminal Investigations Division of THP. This trooper has worked with THP since the mid-1990's. He will remain on leave while troopers investigate further.

The knucklehead allegedly even pulled the his victim's website up on his car's laptop. If true, that makes this truly stupid cop trick gold.

While the misuse of authority to extort sexual or monetary favors is bad enough, at least this time the police did not break into the wrong home and kill someone.

Apparently the People's Republic of China is not the only nation in the far east building up their navy; Japan has laid down their first aircraft carrier since the Second World War.

This would allow the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force the ability to protect their Sea Lines Of Communication further from their shores and support fleet operations maintaining the freedom of same.

Although referred to as a DDH, a helicopter carrying destroyer, this I believe is a first step back to operating aircraft carriers that could allow them to project power in Western Pacific.

From Global Security:

Mention of a light aircraft carrier was first made in the 2001-2005 National Defense Buildup Program Outline (Mid-term Program) that was approved by the Cabinet in December 2000. According to a designer's concept shown by the agency in December 2000, the vessel's bridge was located amidships to bisect the flight deck-a ship design that was effectively identical to its predecessor. But when it became time for the fiscal 2004 budget request in August 2003, the agency came up with a completely new drawing, which showed the bridge on starboard to create a through deck-a design of none other than an aircraft carrier. The agency, however, insists that since this vessel is just an expanded model of any conventional flagship DDH, it ought to be categorized as such.
The fiscal 2004 defence budget gave the JMSDF (Japanese Maritime Defence Force) the largest warship Japan has had since the disappearance of its Imperial Navy. Projected to be built starting in 2004 was a 13,500-ton helicopter destroyer (DDH) code-named 16DDH (16 as in the 16th year of the Heisei emperor in the Japanese calendar), with another planned for 2005. The 16DDH in JSDF classification is by no means an aircraft carrier. Its characteristic shape, however, is nothing but. Having a displacement of about 20,000 tons when equipment and fuel are counted in, they essentially can be classified as light aircraft carriers. It is temporizing to refer to this type of vessel as a DD (destroyer). There has never been a destroyer that exceeded 10,000 tons.
It is almost as large as the Imperial Japanese Navy's Tone class heavy cruisers. It matches in size modern small aircraft carriers as Italy's MM Giuseppe Garibaldi (10,100 tons) and Spain's Principe de Asturia (17,188 tons). In terms of displacement, the two destroyers -- not nuclear-powered -- will be in the class of Britain's Invincible, a 20,600-ton light flattop, when they are fully loaded with fuel.

Looking at it from a view from Japan's porch e.g. territorial disputes with grudges on both sides going back a thousand years if not longer, I would want to build up a force to keep aggressors away as well.

With amazing turn out percentages of 75% with various districts reporting 86% turnout, the people of France have made their voice clear; change and hope are the order of the day. It seems clear that the French want their moribund economy to return to the days of the La Belle Epoque, where France's economy was vibrant, contributed to scientific advancement and regarded highly for their achievements in the arts. All prior to the grotesque bloodletting that gave rise to the socialist control of France during the First World War.

Performing at the victory celebration is France's #1 Elvis impersonator, Johnny Hallyday, who if you see him is recognizable from many motion pictures. This selection is notable in two regards that it reflects Nikolas Sarkozy's more friendly attitude towards the Etat's Unis than his predecessors and that it may reflect what is in the offing for France e.g. tax reform as Johnny Hallyday is a tax refugee now residing in Switzerland having proclaimed that he would move back to France if they reformed their tax code.

Make me very happy I use a phosphate remover in my pool.

There is a dust storm blowing through. After such storms I used to be one of the people who stood in line at the pool store to buy shock and algaecide to turn my pool back to its sparkling beauty from the resultant public toilet appearance it would have after such a storm.

The phosphate remover alleviates all this trouble by removing one of the nutrients needed by the algae itself.

Spending $200 on Phosphate remover a year saves me over $400 in shock, algaecide and The Almighty knows what other chemicals.

Stupid Cop Tricks: Justice For Kathryn Johnston

Two officers plead guilty to Manslaughter charges and more in the murder of 92 year old Kathryn Johnston in a "no knock" raid.

From the initial reports it was obvious this was nothing more than homicide as the result of the incredibly lax standards police now follow when it comes to obtaining warrants, the lack of reproof from the government over their egregious violations of the Bill of Rights and no fear of responsibility for their misdeeds.

I sincerely hope this will be a turning point for police behavior and calls for accountability throughout the nation.

One uniformed thug involved has decided to go to trial. I will provide another update when this occurs.

I am against the so called War On Drugs. Do I take these "recreational pharmaceuticals"? Hell no. I have never even smoked marijuana let alone touched cocaine, crystal meth amphetamine, hashish, etc. If it were legal would I touch any of them? Again hell no.

Would have had a much more solid with the conservative and libertarian elements in the Republican party had he consistently displayed this type of common sense over the last few years.

When asked about the VT shootings Senator McCain recently backed 2nd Amendment rights :

We have to look at what happened here, but it doesn't change my views on the Second Amendment, except to make sure that these kinds of weapons don't fall into the hands of bad people," McCain said Monday in response to a question.

I do believe in the constitutional right that everyone has, in the Second Amendment to the Constitution, to carry a weapon," he said. "Obviously we have to keep guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens.

And add to this sudden attack of common sense the following where he sings bomb Iran to the bune of the Beach Boy's Barbara Ann when asked what should be done about Iran and its nuclear weapons program.

Of course I am unconvinced by this sudden turn to the right. Between trying to outlaw individual personal sales of firearms and the "gun show loophole" and his stance on eliminating free speech (McCain Feingold) behavior this sudden turn does not eliminate the doubt on where he stands created by his behavior in the past.

Stupid Cop Tricks: Secret Service Unholstered

An astounding tale of incompetence has occurred at the White House. One of the Secret Service agents tasked with defending our President wounded two fellow Secret Service agents when he negligently discharged his weapon.

That is correct. The agency trusted with safeguarding the President of the United States of America cannot keep their booger hook off the trigger.

So as a community service and out of my sense of patriotic duty, here is a run down on the four top safety rules of handling a weapon:

All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy. (For those who insist that this particular gun is unloaded, see Rule 1.)
Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target. This is the Golden Rule. Its violation is directly responsible for about 60 percent of inadvertent discharges.
Identify your target, and what is behind it. Never shoot at anything that you have not positively identified.

Of course I am waiting for the video. No reason the Secret Service should not be shamed as was the ATF.

Victim Disarmament Zone Tragedy

A loathsome insane murderer took 31 lives today at the Virginia Tech campus.

VT is a campus made safe by the recent refusal of the Virginia legislature to send a bill out of committee and pass it that would have allowed concealed carry licensed students and teachers to have the means to stop this madman earlier in his rampage.

The loss of life was not avoidable. Any criminal malcontent will disregard the law and carry out their evil designs to punish the world around them.

This does not mean that the loss of life could not have been stopped more quickly with a lower toll of human life.

Had their been a brave person armed at the site the killer could have been stopped more quickly as seen in the Salt Lake City mall shooting.

My prayers will be with the families of those who lost loved ones and with the wounded.

Death Of A Thousand Cuts

The good Commander has a flash news update regarding the ~~Little Crappy Ship~~ Littoral Combat Ship program; the third ship under construction has been canceled due!

This is a victory for the American people in that our tax dollars are not going to be wasted on a ship that costs $500 million without combat modules to provide capability beyond basic maneuvering.

That is right the Navy's power point commandos in the Pentagon had come up with a half billion dollar corvette sized ship that could not fight.

It will be interesting to see what design is implemented to make up for combatant capability lost as the Spruance class ships are being sank in training exercises and the Perry class ships are rapidly being withdrawn from service as well.

For all those large ship fans out there, those that love their battleships and carriers, there needs to be a full fleet with rounded capabilities to project power and protect the Sea Lanes of Communication. Escort vessels such as frigates and destroyers make up this crucial, large numeric portion of the fleet. This is also where the next Halseys, Fletchers, Spruances, Spragues and Deweys will get their experience in leadership positions.

This is an important first step in rebuilding our navy and maintaining our supremacy on the high seas.

Immigrants Urged To Learn English

A California city business organization has began an $4.6M effort to advocate and support immigrants learning English.

The campaign in Santa Ana, where more than three-quarters of residents are Hispanic and less than 15 percent speak English at home, offers free language classes at a community college and take-home study kits.
"Employers have been coming to us saying: 'Look, we don't have enough people to hire that speak English," said Dale Ward, executive vice president of the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce.

"Two-thirds of our workforce does not qualify for an entry-level job in growth industries because they do not speak English or do not speak English well enough."

Emphasis Added.

It simply boils down to the fact that without English there are many jobs that you cannot perform. This limits upward mobility within the community and the level of success that you and your children could obtain.

Also to the point should the work force not meet the demands of the employers, the jobs will be moved by the company owners to locations that have the workforce with the requisite skills. This means that all the jobs that support those companies would dissappear as well. This would eventually lead to the elimination of jobs that do not require English proficiency as their customer base relocated.

What we have when immigrants are not encouraged to assimilate and learn the language, laws and customs of the land is the creation of second class citizens, forever locked into menial tasks and the welfare system. These individuals live at the margins of society dependent upon low skilled work and government hand outs to survive. This increases friction with the community at large. Look to France, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands and other Western European nations for the results of immigration without assimilation; civil war is on the horizon.

Remember its the American melting pot that we learned of in school as children. Americans can be from any place on Earth and are tied together by the principles as laid down in the U.S. Constitution and Declaration of Independence. Come to the United States of America, bring your desire to be free and work hard. Learn the de facto language of the land (English), understand the legal and cultural underpinnings of our society and bring the unique and special portions of your culture to be included.
