Happy Independence Day

Today is the day we celebrate our Founding Fathers and their world changing Declaration of Independence.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

Radical changes in the eighteenth century and for the overwhelming majority of the world an unrealized dream; that the people will be able to choose their government and if necessary abolish a tyrannical regime replacing it with a Representative Republic or Democracy.

Some will laud the Magna Carta as a great step in limiting the power of government but I point out that the Magna Carta itself was nobles limiting the power of the King of England, This document should not be construed as the equivalent of our Declaration of Independence.

For those that would claim that these were wealthy men with nothing to lose go read of the sacrifices made by the signers of the Declaration of Independence.
