The Courageous Danes

While we are frequently reminded of how mealy mouthed, arrogant and churlish our mass media is there are those around the world who stand up for Freedom of Expression in the face of great personal danger.

Case in point the Danish newspaper and news media and their running of controversial cartoons with a negative view of Mohammed the great prophet of Islam.

In the most literal way the artists, editors and production crew put their lives on the line to express a negative opinion of Mohammed and Islam, an act which has lead to the death of Theo Van Gogh.

Steadfastly the Danes have told all those who disagree with an opinion expressed, which includes calls of protest from Islamic leaders the world over, that this is what you expect when you live in a free state.

Today I salute their efforts at standing up to nihilistic bullies by asking my readers to enjoy one of the fine products of Denmark soon as a sign of your support.

As with all Americans when I think of Europe I am reminded of their long tradition of fine brewing.

Two notable beers from Denmark are Carlsberg and Elephant.

From my efforts to locate information on Danish firearms production and ownership I can only deduce there is not a strong history of private firearms ownership.

I did find an interesting firearm made in the last century in Denmark, the Madsen submachine gun.

A version was also made under license in Brazil in America's beloved .45acp.

Let us hope the NFA is challenged and struck down by our newly invigorated Supreme Court.

Should that happen I will save room in the rack for a Madsen.

In the meantime I will content myself with enjoyinig Carlsberg beer.

State of The Union

The POTUS today gave his consitutionally mandated State of the Union address.

A kindness was paid to the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King whose wife Coretta passed away today in the opening comments of the address.

The message early in the speech was, " do not weasel out now cowardly bastages".

Following this was the usual rhetoric regarding social security's looming insolvency, medical care new energy sources and removing our dependence on oil.

Like Ronald Regan, President Bush asked his fellow Americans to be positive about the future and look forward to it.

The In Your Face moment came when President Bush introduced his two new Supreme Court Justices, Alito and Roberts.

The sanctity of life was referenced.

On a bright note comments were directed at those who have suffered recently from natural disasters and how, though left out of the prosperity of the nation by their encouraged serfdom to the Democrartic party's machine politics, he told them to have hope, work hard and they too can succeed.

The President's biggest drop of the ball was on the issue of immigration.

While I am a supporter of immigration I want those coming to the United States of America to become Americans. To embrace the American dream and ideals which have made this the greatest country on Earth.

It is disappointing to see a President from a border state now acknowledge that Illegal Immigration is a drain on the local economy.

What I want to see is a guest worker program, with no direct link to becoming citizens, that requires a return to the country of origin upon completion and no access to welfare.

Rather than encouraging those to immigrate to the U.S. to exploit our welfare system I want to attract those who are here to succeed through their hard work and ingenuity.

All in all an upbeat works-man-like delivery of a message of optimism.

No Funding For Hamas

Apparently our president has decided that we will not be sending any funds to the Palestinian state since Hamas, a terrorist organization, won in the elections.

We contribute about a quarter of the $1.6B funding for the Palestinian state including Aid Agencies, through the U.N. and directly.

Recently German's new Chancellor Merkel snubbed Hamas by saying she will not visit while on a trip to Israel.

There is also talk of discontinuing funding from Germany, the second largest sole contributor to the Palestinian state if memory serves me. But I expect this to be all talk and no action as usual with the Eurotards.

Captain's Quarters a pleasant post regarding this.

Expressing My Sensitive Side

I have received comments that I am too vehement in the expressing of my convictions.

To allay these concerns I am providing cute picture with kitties in it.

And for those who do not like my picture of kitties or the opinion(s) expressed here I have the following.

You can lick my big, hairy pussy.

I'll Bite Your Leg Off!

Someone inquired with me recently on what my opinion was of Osama Bin Laden's recent video where references were made to a truce.

My response was the equivalent of the following:

1) Those winning a conflict do not ask for or mention a truce. Only those on the verge of total collapse find a truce appealing.

2) You never, ever surrender operational momentum when you have the upper hand.

3) When someone asks for truce you push harder, stepping up the operational tempo.

This cartoon captures the essence of of Bin Laden's position.

Just for the record I think Osama's dead as Che Guevara.

Osama is going to be the Elvis of the Middle East with sightings of him becoming more and more common through the remainder of the century.

Rape In Sweden Up 30%

Viking Observer has an article on the thirty percent increase in rape seen in Sweden over the last year.

Things are getting worse, however: rape statistics in Sweden have jumped 30%
between 2004 and 2005 (source:
Svenska Dagbladet, my translation):The increase cannot be all explained by the new sex-crime law and an increased tendency to report rapes to the police. In total, the number of reported rapes and rape attempts nationally increased by over 30%
last year compared to 2004, a comparison that TT has made between the local
police´s preliminary statistics shows.

The number of reported rapes only decreased in a few län (regions - Henrik). The police´s statistics are just now being quality-proofed by the Crime Prevention Council, that is expected to publicize an overview of them. The numbers might thus be adjusted somewhat. But
even the half-year statistics for 2005 show a large increase. The percentage-wise increase
was the highest in Hallands and Jönköping län.

With the new sex crime law, more crimes are put in the rape category. That has thus
produced some change after April 1st. But the stricter law cannot explain the
entire jump, says Lotta Nilsson, analyst at the Crime Prevention Council, when
she delivers a statement to TT about the increased number of reported rapes in
general.

In an earlier post, I reported how rapists in Sweden are four times more likely to be foreigners compared to Swedes, and how immigrants from Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya dominate the group.

I have reported before on the epidemic of rape spreading across many nations whose multiculturalist view of immigration failed to assimilate them into the national historic and cultural view.

Should sufficient force be brought to bear to present immigrants with the message Assmilate or Leave Now e.g. deporting the perpetual welfare cases, deporting anyone charged with a misdemeanor while in the immigration process, forcing the immigrants to work, etc, you will see a turn around in these numbers.

Equally as important as the societal level of influence is the local one where individuals just do not take any abuse from those they have welcomed into their countries as recently seen in Australia.

Its time that every nation went to work on removing the malignant elements from their society which influence the majority of the immigrant communities.

Once it is observed that those inciting unreset, riot, criminal behavior and disregard for their host nation lose their welfare benefits are arrested, deported and otherwise marginalized the majority of the community will be able to assert their willigness to work and coexist within the national culture have immigrated to join.

Update:

Of course the simplest answer to the problems created by violent criminals to simply remove them from the gene pool.

As more states within the U.S.A. recognize the right to Self Defense and allow for concealed carry of firearms by law abiding citizens, Western nations need to recognize that the Right to Self Defense is a Human Right.

Once a woman can apply 125 grains of rape prevention the numbers of those who will commit such a heinous will drop dramatically.

VA State Lawmaker Negligent Discharge

A VA. state lawmaker had a negligent discharge in his office.

Luckily the round spent entered a bullet proof vest hanging on his door.

He apologized to his fellow lawmakers.

What he needs to do is attend a safety course.

I will leave room for the unlikely, that is a mechanical malfunction as he cleared the weapon.

Of course Occam's razor says he had his finger on the trigger causing the negligent discharge.

The United States Navy has a nice site dealing with negligent discharges.

Basic Safety Rules:

Treat every weapon as if it were loaded

Never point your weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot

Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to
fire

Keep your weapon on safe until you are ready to fire

An American Icon: Colt .45 Auto

John Moses Browning began designing and producing what is most likely his most famous masterpiece the Colt model 1911 in 1905.

This firearm designed to win a trial to replace the inadequate .38 Long Colt

Historical Information on Colt's model 1911 abounds on the internet and has been the subject of many books.

Colt's web site today is focused on military and law enforcement sales to the exclusion of law abiding citizens who are provided with a minisucle link to their civilian site.

Into this void have come numerous companies picking up the market neglected by Colt.

Names like the following are available to assuage the American's need for their Colt 1911 in .45acp; Smith & Wesson, Kimber, Springfield Armory, Wilson Combat, Sig Arms not to mention the myriad of inexpensive overseas copies ranging from $300 on up to and exceeding $2500.

In fact in reverse of the "wonder nine" trend of the 1980's where many flocked to purchase 9x19mm handguns that help up to 20 rounds in each double stack magazine, manufacturers are now creating their own .45acp pistols and even spawning new rounds and firearms.

Manufacturers like Springfield Armory and their XD series pistol, Sig Arms P220, Glock's Model 21 in .45 acp have taken advantage of those who like their .45acp round for its stopping power but would prefer a different package in which to deploy it.

While the military seemed to abandon the Colt 1911 and the .45acp cartridge in 1985 the U.S. Armed Forces various branches have quietly been creating their own solution, often rebuilding many times over fifty year old weapons and placing them in the hands of those that defend our freedom.

Add to this the Pentagon's call for a new .45 acp pistol to serve the needs of our defenders of freedom and John Moses Browning's brain child will be defending families and freedom well into the new millenia.

Border Standoff In Texas

An armed force including vehicles, one a Hummvee, with mounted machine guns crossed over into the United States from Mexico.

Two border patrol agents and two Texas DPS officers had to stand by and let the drug smugglers, all in camouflage, escape back into Mexico.

Its time we lent the Border Patrol the assistance of National Guard units trained as a rapid reaction force (RRF) including anti-tank weapon armed helicopters.

All the Border Patrol would have to do is stay hidden and observe and call in the location to the RRF.

Suddenly heavily armed smuggler becomes smoking grease spot.

If they want to escalate to crew served weapons we need to introduce them to what firepower means.

Mr. TOW has not made any new friends since Uday and Qusay. Perhaps its time to let him off the leash around the border.

The Good Far Outnumber The Bad

The reports are coming in from Iraq that the average citizen is turning against the terrorists themselves rather than idly standing by.

Not out of love for the U.S. or what we stand for but more likely they are tired of their families being attacked relentlessly by suicide bombers.

This is in stark contrast to the nutjobs among them notably Muqtada al Sadr and his ilk who has come out backing Iran in its confrontation with the West and its own neighbors.

As I have oft noted in life 95% of people in any area or among any group are good, solid citizens. The other five percent make the news due to their heinous acts.

Whether this be rednecks dragging a man to death in Texas, the sinister acts of a serial killer like Ted Bundy or the type of person who would bomb a wedding reception the twisted exist among every group, only their purported motivation differs.

Its up to us to remember the average citizen is not represented by the"splody-dopes" and the blood thirsty nihilists.

The Dutch and Danes Lead The Way on Immigration Reform

The Dutch have again asserted their the primacy of their nation’s native customs and rule of law by passing a bill that requires immigrants to pass an “Integration Test” which requires among other things fluency in Dutch, Knowledge of the social and political structure of the Netherlands and its history.

Applicants will pay E 350 (about $430) for the privilege to take this exam at the Dutch consulate in their homeland.

The Danes also have taken a leadership role in reforming their welfare state and immigration laws. Under new rules implemented last year someone applying for Danish citizenship must have worked four of the last five years which by any reasonable standard is still incredibly lax.

These nations have decided to fight a rising tide of immigration which brings with it high unemployment (over 54% for immigrants and their children) and welfare dependency.

Notably Norway has now stated that only those with a job waiting may immigrate. The reason is startling:

Ekhaugen’s study shows that after 17 years in Norway refugees become less welfare dependent than non-western immigrants. 50% of the non-western immigrants who settled in Norway in the period from 1966 to 1975 were welfare dependent 25 years later. 60% of the group of refugees who arrived between 1992 and 1996 were still receiving welfare benefits 5 years later, while this was only the case for 36% of the non-western immigrants and 18% of the immigrants from western countries. After 8 years 55% of the fugitives was still receiving welfare subsidies. Of the foreigners who arrived between 1966 and 1985 40% was getting welfare payments after 20 years. For native Norwegians the figure is 27%, but because this group is on average older the difference with the immigrants is even greater than the figures indicate.

Let’s see if the rest of Europe’s nanny states (Germany, Italy and France) and the United Kingdom follow suit to reclaim the futures of their nations.

The Wisdom of Samuel Johnson

Early in life I came across the poet Samuel Johnson's work in a rather unconventional fashion.

It has stood me good stead in life.

I now am inclined to share it with others.

"claret is the liquor for boys; port, for men; but he who aspires to be a hero must drink brandy

In the first place, brandy is most grateful to the palate; and then brandy will do soonest for a man what drinking can do for him. There are, indeed, few who are able to drink brandy. That is a power rather to be wished for than attained."

While I have not the soul of a poet I know the chicks dig it.

History Repeated

The United States Navy has a long tradition of defeating pirates.

I am not referring to the romanticized English pirates who fought a "cold war" against Spain like Sir Richard Francis Drake but to the subhuman vermin who capture shipping, enslave crew and passengers of captured vessels and destroy lawful commerce.

Whether you are referring the Barbary Pirates or modern day piratical elements operating in the Pacific Rim or the coasts of western Africa, the United States Navy does its part to remove these oxygen thieves from the gene pool.

This is eloquently supported by a report from a report by In The Breach.

The name sake for the great American, Winston Churchill, who lead Great Britain in its greatest time of peril, leads the way to eliminating this threat.

A fine salute to a great American.

Should sailors of the Winston Churchill find themselves in my desert you can call upon me for a ration of Grog.

Metalstorm is back in the news.

This can be used in small arms to medium sized crew served weapons.

The Feminine Art Of Self Defense

What the introduction of affordable firearms did was level the playing field for the weak to defend themselves from the strong.

This is especially true in the case of women.

Where reach, physical strength, aggressiveness and skill sets requiring hours of training dominated now an individual with rudimentary training could successfully defend themselves.

Even in the United States of America, fabled land of freedom, there are women denied their right to defend themselves. Not only those caught in "nanny states" such as Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey and California but across this nation our youngest women are unable to purchase a firearm despite the fact they are considered adults, live independent lives and are trusted with the franchise.

Unfortunately millions of women at risk from serious physical harm including rape and murder are denied the ability to defend themselves by their governments. Even in countries where there is an epidemic of rape, the United Kingdom, France, Sweden and Australia to name a few, still deny their daughters, wives and mothers the ability to defend themselves from gang rape.

As what little I can do to address this issue I will be showcasing several firearms which would be very effective in permitting women to assert their rights over their own body.

To begin with we have the venerable defender of home and hearth the .38 special revolver. Found in many night stands, glove boxes and purses across the nature, the revolver in .38 special is a wonderful beginner's firearm.

Simple to learn and with adequate stopping power this firearm's is available in many styles including those designed to be easily concealed within a purse or pocket.

On the topic of concealable personal protection there are many firearms made that can be concealed in a vest, jacket or even pants pocket yet have adequate power to stop an attack. An example of this would be Kel-Tec's P32 in ..32ACP, long a staple back up gun for police officers.

Effective home defense can also be had from the simple to learn, inexpensive and effective shotgun. Whether this be the Lady Defender from Winchester in 20 gauge or the Remington 870 in 12 gauge, a shotgun can adequately provide safety from the malevolent things that go bump in the night.

While I can have no direct impact on those who are outside the United States of America's lives I can do my part to raise awareness of their needs and God given right to Self Defense.

Grateful Hat Tip to Oleg Volk and his site A Human Right.

Stupid Cop Tricks V

Picking up where the last entry on Stupid Cop Tricks left off we have an office who did wait for the proverbial quid pro quo for a female likely DUI suspect.

Leaving aside the woman knew exactly what was expected in this situation and claiming “rape” thereafter is as low as this oxygen thief of an officer accepting sexual favors as a bribe, we expect better conduct and forethought in our public officials than one would expect from a drunken thirteen year old.

An officer rather than trying to catch those involved in a drive by performs one his own drunken version.

From Good Ol’ Mizzou we have a Columbia, Mo. Police officer on trial for stalking his ex-girlfriend.

From across the pond we see the U.K.’s Navy has lost another firearm. Its not too bad really since it is an SA80 it is unlikely to pose a threat to anyone unless employed as a clumsy bludgeon or dropped on their toe. This is almost as good as the convicted felon (assault, rape, etc) in the U.K. being left in charge of an armory.

Danish Queen Shows More Testicular Fortitude Than French Leaders

CDR Salamander has an excellent post on the very gutsy Queen of the Danes.

"We have to show our opposition to Islam and we have to, at times, run the risk of having unflattering labels placed on us because there are some things for which we should display no tolerance," she said.

"And when we are tolerant, we must know whether it is because of convenience or conviction,"

The Danes as you recall have shown a great deal of spine noting the will not tolerate the likes of honor killings, killings used to stifle free speech, etc.

Even their newspapers and media folk have acted like they have a pair rather than prattling on about multiculturalism.

Firearms Safety

It's been a while since my last firearms safety related post and high time we covered the basics again.

What Should You Teach Your Child About Gun Safety?

STOP!

Don't Touch.

Leave the Area.

Tell an Adult

The initial steps of "Stop" and "Don't Touch" are the most important. To counter the natural impulse to touch a gun, it is imperative that you impress these steps of the safety message upon your child.

In today's society, where adult supervision is not always possible, the direction to "Leave the Area" is also essential. Under some circumstances, area may be understood to be a room if your child cannot physically leave the apartment or house.

"Tell an Adult" emphasizes that children should seek a trustworthy adult, neighbor, relative or teacher -- if a parent or guardian is not available.

The NRA's Eddie Eagle GunSafe Program includes an instructor guide, activity books, poster, and an animated video to explain its four-step safety message. For more information about the program, visit www.nrahq.org/safety/eddie or call (800) 231-0752.

Basic Gun Safety Rules
Although the NRA has complete gun safety rules available for specific types of firearm use (hunting and competition, for example), the following three rules are fundamental in any situation. Whether or not you own a gun, it is important to know these rules so that you may insist that others follow them.

Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. Whether you are shooting or simply handling a gun, never point it at yourself or others.

Common sense will tell you which direction is the safest. Outdoors, it is generally safe to point the gun toward the ground, or, if you are at a shooting range, toward the target. Indoors, be mindful of the fact that a bullet can penetrate ceilings, floors, walls, windows, and doors.

Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot. When holding a gun, rest your trigger finger outside the trigger guard alongside the gun. Until you are actually ready to fire, do not touch the trigger.

From the NRA's website.

Health and Performance Study of Women In The Military

The DOD has been looking at physical and health issues with women in the military.

Its a mixed bag.

Good news for staffing in general is that women can be trained to handle more jobs requiring physical strength with appropriate training. This training would include up to 24 weeks of 90 minute excercise periods multiple times a week incuding aerobic and low rep, high weight excercises for strength.

What the report fails to note is if this 90 minutes of physical excercise is above and beyond current requirements or how they change. Should this 90 minutes be a supplemental program or an increase in time expenditure over the current amount reserved for Physical Training this goes back to a staffing and budget issue e.g. how do you pay for the lost time from actual production that must be offset and what training or work is eliminated to make time for it.

A second myth expelled is that the increased workload would create women who were built more like men rather than the shape that meets most women and men's aestethic standards for the female form. Rather these women decreased fat content and increased muscle a look admired at most gyms throughout the nation.

Bad News the number of injuries per individual go up as a result. This is a bad thing as women already have higher incidences of stress fractures and injury than their male counterparts during the induction and initial training phases.

What is most interesting here is that should women in the military be provided with adequate physical training they are capable of handling more jobs within the military. In fact many previously considered weaknesses regarding the interaction of large amounts of physical work and impact on the female reproductive system were largly dispelled.

Of course from personal observation there is a sizable minority of women in the military whose excuse from the same work as their male peers has just been eliminated. No doubt the "can do" women in the military will look upon this with glee and enjoy every moment of pushing the "non hackers".

This does not say that women are fit for extended infantry operations away from a base of support. Nor does this report address differential loss of time due to preemptive medical care and injury between men and women.

Essentially this report says women in the military can do more however there are still limitations and significant physiological differences between men and women. Typical "gee no kidding" moment found in most of these reports.

Sick And Wrong

Expecting Delight, Experiencing Mediocrity

While shopping I was aghast to find my preferred Brandy was not available at my liquor store.

While checking with the distinguished gentleman who is the resident expert on brandies I asked for a suitable alternative.

He recommended Calvados Coquerel while noting that it was indeed a distant second to my preferred Calvados Boulard.

As usual the gentleman was spot on in his recommendation.

While having an appealing apple flavor and aroma it subtly missed the mark set by finer vintages. Add to this a finish that was closer to burning than gently warming fire as the drink spread through my system definitely relegated this brand to a second-only-if-I-must place in the beverage hierarchy.

While I prefer a Calvados brandy I do not rule out the other fine brandies available made outside this tradition. Honorable brands are available like Asbach Uralt, Cardenal de Mendoza and Lepanto.

Add to this pleasant but not excellent evening was a variation in my cigar of choice. As the shop was out of La Gloria Cubana Series R #6 maduro cigars I tried a limited release cigar the La Gloria Cubana Series R EPC.

Missing was the strong yet smoothly elegant flavor that was consistent from first draw upon the cigar until finish. While smooth this cigar lacked the character and vitality of its less distinguished, by price if nothing else, cousin.

I look forward to a more precise pairing to bring forth the wonder and awe at excellent craftsmanship in the near future.

Presidential Candidates

Here are two individuals of much merit whom I would like to see run for President of the United States of America:

Fred Thompson

J.C. Watts

Why I would like them to run:

From the way they speak you can tell they actually have read the Constitution of the United States of America and the Bill of Rights and later Amendments.

Osama and Al Zwahiri Reunion?

Al Zwahiri Bagged?

Little Green Footballs has a report that Al Zwahiri may have been whacked in Pakistan.

Coincidentally I have a cigar and a beer untouched sitting next to me. A very serendipitous coincidence.

Update 14Jan06:

DNA is being used to identify remains. Apparently a sample was provided by one of Al Zwahiri's siblings.

Apparently he has truly been forsaken by his clan/tribe and they have pulled out all the stops to end his miserable existence.

Update 14Jan06:

Looks like Al Zwahiri was not present according to various reports.

Those who were reported to be harboring this oxygen thief are protesting our game of Whack-A-Mole: Islamic Terrorist Edition.

Iran Closing In On The Edge

Iran is still playing what may be considered a very poor game of brinksmanship.

A nice article regarding some of the background on what looks to be an inevitable conflict see Clayton Cramer's blog.

Fox's 24 Evolves Its Gun Handling

mAss Backwards has a very descriptive photo in the evolution of their TV series hero Jack Bauer's (played by Kiefer Sutherland) gun handling.

Five years ago he held a weapon near his head with his finger in the trigger.

This season he holds his weapon in a proper grip, pointed in a presumably safe direction with his finger outside the trigger.

If only more shows were conscientious enough to show proper safe gun handling.

Doing so might save the life of a child whose parents and schools refuse to teach him respect for weapons and what they can do.

Epidemic of Rape in Western Countries

The Liberty Belles site has an article referencing the epidemic of rape oppressing women in Western countries.

This is the direct result of unassimilated immigration where those from Southwestern Asian countries whose thinly veiled theocratic governments and religious institutions promote violence against women who are deemed unchaste e.g. are not wearing a burkha.

This is what sparked Sidney Australia's recent rioting; it wasn't racial hatred but a response to repeated assaults upon their daughters, sisters and mothers that drove Australians to rise up against those terrorizing them.

This is not isolated to Australia but is happening in France, Sweden and other countries throughout the West.

It has gotten to the point that sixteen year old girls in Sweden invented a anti-rape chastity belt to protect themselves.

Those immigrating to the West should think on why they came here. Our liberal traditions (in the eighteenth century tradition of the word) and outlook are what has made the West the envy of the world. Among these traditions is respecting the rule of law and the rights of our fellow citizens.

We can never back down from this nor should anyone immigrating to the West think we will.

Rather I recommend they ponder long and hard on why the West has done so well and why the countries they have left are in the shape they are. Namely the Western culture(s) have flourished while those depending upon rigid subjugation of the human spirit have not.

NY Mayor Bloomberg Taken To Task

John R. Lott of More Guns Less Crime and Bellisles debunking fame has taken NY Mayor Bloomberg to task over his recent cry for more gun control.

As usual the ever widening chasm between states with strict gun controls (12) versus those which follow the Second Amendment of our Constitution (38) continues to grow we see more and more inflammatory rhetoric from the lefties blaming the rest of the states.

Read the whole thing.

Criminal Alien Sex Offender Roundup

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents are acting like they are in the private sector and want to keep their jobs and I say this as a compliment.

ICE recently rounded up sixteen criminal alien sex offenders. This initiative has rounded up 7,000 illegal aliens with violent and predatory criminal records.

ICE has also began hitting the big fish where it hurts them the most; their bank account. Seizing assets and freezing bank accounts is the one way we can get at those higher on the foodchain than the violent flunkies they employ to violate our border and peddle misery.

Your tax dollars at work.

Hat tip to Polipundit.

Stakes On Southern Border Rise

Apparently those to be impacted most by increased border enforcement and potential physical barriers between the USA and our Southern neighbor Mexico are protesting these moves; they have begun shooting at Border Patrol agents.

In the Arizona sector acts of violence against Border Patrol agents are up 50% during the same period for the previous year
. This is no doubt mirrored by larger degrees of violence against the citizens of our border communities.

The drug traffickers and coyotes, both of whom make a living from the suffering of others, are raising the stakes.

Apparently these fools do not believe we have the will to do something about it. Perhaps they should recall what happened to Pancho Villa.

I would politely suggest everyone in Mexico think of Black Jack Pershing.

For those without the patience to follow up on the tale of an opportunistic bandit leader Mexican revolutionary Pancho Villa was angered by the U.S.’s support of a more amenable bandit leader revolutionary.

To demonstrate his anger he raided the U.S. town of Columbus, New Mexico with 1500 (some say 500) of his men.

The U.S. Army detachment stationed there and local citizens killed half of Villa’s men in return for eighteen dead (Apparently Villa didn’t want to break the trend on Mexican military prowess exhibited during the Mexican American War).

In retaliation then President Woodrow Wilson sent Black Jack Pershing after Villa and his men. Pancho Villa successfully eluded Gen. “Black Jack” Pershing, however his days of influence were over which one would call a successful “mission kill” if not actual success.

That’s right after we killed half his men we went hunting for him.

For a more recent example of what happens when someone makes us angry confer with Mullah Omar of Afghanistan (should you be able to find him without an Ouija board). In his case we went half way around the world to kill those who supported our enemy. We destroyed his regime, killed his fighters and worst of all liberated the people who lived in fear of his capricious theocracy. Mexico might want to remember how conveniently located they are to large numbers of U.S. troops.

I suggest all the petty bandits, thieves, drug traffickers and “coyotes” on our Southern border take note before we take measures to fully demonstrate the meaning of U.S. military prowess.

Purchases For The New Year

Last year I purchased no firearms.

Yes I am properly chagrined and know that I may be drummed out of the unofficial and unacknowledged grand lodge of gun nuttery.

This year I have several purchases on my mind.

To name the tops on my want list:

1) A .45acp pistol like the Sig P220 or A Springfield Armory Loaded .45.

2) His and Her AK's. I do not know whether to go with 5.45x39mm or 7.62x39mm at this point, however they will be folders. My wife has wanted one of these since seeing Carmella Soprano on HBO's mob series The Sopranos use one in the first seasono.

3) A Glock pistol although I have not decided on caliber as yet, the front runners being .40S&W and .357Sig. I have been impressed with the simplicity and easy pointability of the Glocks since firing my brothers Glock 19 several years ago.

4) A good or better condition used Remington 870 or Winchester Defender shotgun that will be able to pull double duty as field gun and home defense riot gun.

Lower priority wants on my 2006 firearms wish list:
5) Galil or Valmet or far more likely Galil/Valmet clone in 5.56x45mm.

6) An M4gery. One of the most numerous weapons in the world the M16 clone is a must for every firearms owner.

7) A decent pocket pistol in .32acp like the Keltec P32.

Looks like I will have to get around to making some improvements here and putting up a tip jar and some advertisements. Perhaps this will assist in funding my purchases.

Weapons of Battlestar Galactica

Having recently viewed numerous episodes of Battlestar Galactica I noted a strange discrepancy in their firearms choices. The Colonial forces are armed with carbines( Beretta Cx4 Storm) ,

submachine guns like HK's UMP and the (Ruger MP9)

and pistols (FN FiveSeven and Mateba). While sufficient to bring down a human being at close quarters these weapons are not adequate for bringing down the armored monsters with twin auto cannons on their appendages.

Now some may point out that there would be amazing advances in ammunition in the future such that these lighter projectiles would be able to penetrate and bring these creatures down much like the move from black powder rifles using .45 to .58 caliber rounds to .30 nitrocellulose rounds. However we are not seeing that, the small arms employed in the series are largely ineffective against the "toasters".

You would think a more effective "can opener" would have been employed by this point. Technologies like SADARMs deployed from disposable mortars or other heavy weapons would be deployed.

The closesy to a Heavy Weapon seen that I am aware of are Streetsweeper shotgun used as a grenade launcher and a 40mm H-K grenade launcher.

The Russian 43mm single shot grenade launcher was added to demonstrate ammunition size in relation to weapon for the grenade launchers. This weapon has not been seen on BSG that I am aware of.

They would be better off with small multiple shot man portable rocket launchers and multiple shot grenade launchers like the MGL-140 made in South Africa

than carbines and subguns. Notably the FN 2000
and OICW weapons systems and their multiple round capacity for 20mm grenades would be far closer to what the threat level demands. Of course a simple RPG like weapon or rifle grenade setup would take less suspension of disbelief.

Of course on board a ship for repelling boarders you would need to extraordinarily careful not to puncture the people tank and let the air out as you defended yourselves.

There is also a lack of medium infantry support weapons like the General Purpose Machine Gun which can lay down fire while the group may maneuver or assist in holding a position.

Now that I have off my chest I would like to point out the exceptionally poor weapon handling on this show.

From pointing weapons at each other with their fingers inside the trigger guard to blindly spraying rounds when there are only a handful of large targets coming straight towards them, those directing the scenes involving firearms never fail to display their ignorance or disregard for safe and effective weapon handling.

Battlestar Galactica

I had the opportunity to record the recent Battlestar Galactica marathon on the SciFi Channel. That is I recorded the new version not the 1978/79/80 version.

I came away with several impressions:

Capt. Lee "Apollo" Adama is a whiney, petulant bitch.

The "Starbuck" character while having undergone a dramatic increase scope in scope over the previous version of BG really isn't the same character at all. Not only is Starbuck the voice of reason and pragmatism in this series but apparently the one bridging the gap between factions.

The political infighting, empire building and ruthlessness displayed in the series reflects the human experience.

All in all surprisingly enjoyable morality tale without the heavy reliance of "wow" factor at special effects one would have expected from other series. Certainly whatever quasi-utopian depictions of the future, the various follow on incarnations of Star Trek for example, have been appearing in science fiction entertainment for the last forty years should take note and meet the rising bar for drama reflecting the human condition and entertainment.

The Heroes Who Killed Che Honored

Babalu Blog has an article on Bolivia honoring the brave men who put their lives on the line to end the mass murderer Che Guevara's spreading of terror across two contintents.

These men are being protected in resistance to the next president to be Evo Morales.

This is a victory for those that have fought tyranny the world over. Whether it be the farmer who at great peril to their family informs those fighting in the cause of freedom of the movements of the evil doers, the nineteen year old conscript seeing the elephant for the first time or the seasoned commander leading his men into battle, all those who resist oppression should be honored.

For more information on the significance of these men see my earlier post regarding the left's poster child; Commies Aren't Cool.

Great Things From Poland

In an on going series of posts where I point out the great products of countries which have thrown off the shackles of despot, I know want to bring to everyone's attention the products of the freedom loving people of Poland.

Over the history of Europe Poland has been added, removed and readded to political maps.

What has been lost over the years is that the Poles are a freedom loving people who have fought bravely and effectivelyto keep Poland alive.

Whether you look at the efforts of Solidarity and the late Pontiff John Paul II to make Poland free or you look to the feared winged Hussars, the Poles have put their lives on the line to live up to their dreams of freedom.

As those who have spent any time touching base on this blog know, I enjoy a good beer. While not known for its beersPoland can brew with the rest of the world's renowned breweries.

Case in point Browar Namystow's Beer N Full, a beer with a taste between Czech pilsner and a German Kolsch. Those that enjoy Pilsner Urquell would enjoy this beer.

Poland makes great vodka as well as fine beer as you'll note should you tast Wyborowa vodka.

Poland also makes some fine firearms. From the famed Vis 35 to their AK-47 type rifles, the Poles have a tradition of fine weapon making.

Please join me in supporting the love of freedom as I do; by purchasing the fruits of their labor.

Immigration and Terrorism

The United States of America has had numerous waves of immigration bringing those seeking a better life to a place where their own hard work and a laissez faire system can make them happen.

As in all things in life not everyone's efforts are successful and in many cases these are the individuals who turn to expressing their disaffection and lack of success outwardly as terrorism. This has been seen of late in the United States of America with the September 11th 2001 attacks; on July 7th 2005 with the UK’s Subway bombings, the bombings in Spain from which they began cowering in fear, the Western nationals caught attempting terrorist acts in Iraq and Afghanistan and many more.

This is not a new phenomenon.

The United States of America and the world was wracked by another such wave of terrorism as we have seen in the late twentieth century and early 21st century during the mid- nineteenth to early twentieth centuries. Rather than claiming to be fueled by hate filled religious rhetoric these individuals worshipped at the humanist altar of Communism (Socialism being only Communism wearing a Happy Face mask) and Anarchy.

As these philosophies spread throughout the world including the our own country, the unassimilated immigrants and homegrown disaffected elements, largely left out of the economic success story of the United States of America, were drawn to the fiery rhetoric and were perhaps given an ogre to blame their lack of success upon; those in the world who did not follow their philosophical bent. The unsuccessful elements left outside the American dream finding philosophies that not only allowed but encouraged them to strike out against their imagined oppressors were those that initiated a whirlwind of assassinations and terrorist incidents.

Notable among these were assassinations of heads of state; President McKinley , Umberto I, King of Italy, Alexander II and Alexander III (plot foiled) Czar of Russia among others.

Reader note I have no soft spot in my heart for despots that wear a crown any more than I do those that cloak themselves in their philosophical rhetoric of hate, oppression and distrust.

Riots and strikes went hand in hand including the Haymarket Riot where, although provoked by police corruption and violence, anarchists lobbed bombs into the police officers’ lines killing eighteen. The famous case of Sacco and Venzetti, two anarchists in the U.S.A. who were poster children for the Left and defended by socialist Upton Sinclair despite his knowing their guilt as he would later admit, is another indication of the left and their Anarchist roots, then lately largely discredited by the success of the Bolshevik Revolution and absolute absence of success for their particular flavor of despotism.

Add to these activities the addition of state sponsorship of terrorism after the founding of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Not only did the Soviet Union implement a deliberate campaign of terror on their own people including the use of concentration camps, legions of informers and a state security apparatus whose various names will be infamous for centures if not millennia, it exported its revolution to other countries supporting leftist’s causes, the proverbial “useful idiots”, like those operating in the Spanish Civil War, Korean War, Vietnam War, the various Bush Wars in Africa where the forces of oppression sparred with remnants of colonial civilization . While I have no support for any system other than one that allows one vote per citizen in a universal suffrage environment the “People’s Revolutions” so popular to the left in the 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s were notably worse than those they fought against.

This trend was also followed in the U.S. and Europe where the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s Nuclear Freeze movements were largely bankrolled by the KGB in addition to their funding and training of various terrorist groups. Examples of these were the disaffected children of “well off” middle class as seen in the Bader Meinhof Gang (then W. Germany), the Red Brigade (Italy) and the Weather Underground (USA).

In all a striking parallel is drawn through the ages of those unsuccessful in the society in which they must operate becoming disaffected and being taken in by hate filled rhetoric, whether that be leftist political ideology or religious in nature, and striking out at the society at large. The message to walk away with is the crazies will always be with us only their claimed motivation varies.
